Obviously, the answer is no. All good advertising/marketing programs focus on diversifying the channels that are used. A cohesive blend of both online and offline marketing is ideal for all campaigns. As it stands, social media marketing is still a new platform and is not widely used for big business advertising, making it highly underused. This all means, of course, that if you use social media as your only channel, your marketing campaign will hit major roadblocks.

No. As good as social media can be, I think for the vast majority of companies looking to market their products online, social media should be one part of many in a comprehensive strategy. While you can receive great results from social media, it would be unwise to put all your eggs in one basket.

I think that the answer is yes, but only for very small companies or startups in the technology sector. There are plenty of companies, such as Twitter, that have manifested themselves purely through word of mouth in the social media space. For established brands, however, social media should just be a part of a well-rounded marketing strategy.

Not for search engine rankings. It can be done with a little savvy on-page SEO, but on its own it will have limits as no one is telling the search engines what the site is actually about.

No. But I think Social Media Marketing makes a company’s overall marketing stronger.

I believe that using limiting marketing efforts to only one channel can be a disastrous concept. I am not one to play heavily in the stock market, but if you ask anyone that knows anything about that industry, they’ll tell you diversifying your portfolio is key. I believe the same principle to be true amongst a company’s marketing efforts. The reality is prospects and customers are using several channels nowadays before making a final buying decision, and it’s very important to be in front of these consumers at every level of the decision making process.
Question 9: If you could only give one social media marketing tip, what would it be?
Scott Buresh
You must have a strategy and specific goals in mind to achieve the type of networking that will put your company on top. You’ll want to avoid taking too much control of the content – do not delete users’ comments or contributions if they are negative or tell them what they can and can’t do on the website. Rather, work at suggestively getting people to follow your guidelines and change the comments themselves if they don’t comply with the rules, which will increase quality of content and the willingness of participants to speak fairly and honestly. Increasing your ROI comes in three ways – better site awareness, a higher quality of targeted traffic, and links back to your company’s website through the social networking site. Achieve these three and you’ll have more leads flowing in.
Roger Janik
If I could give only one tip for social media marketing, I would have to say- try it out. The fact is that for those on the fence, social media marketing is pretty much an affordable solution to market your products and websites and can be quite beneficial in both the short and long term. You really don’t have anything to lose from utilizing social media marketing.

Engage in the conversation and contribute to the community in a meaningful way. Karma is a very tangible element in the social media space.
Alan Rabinowitz
Target your goals. Many Social Media marketers are concerned with different goals. Some are blog readers (subscribers) some are concerned with getting visitors to click ads and their Alexa numbers to get more advertisers, some are concerned with their rankings.

Create a presentation about your company’s Unique Value Proposition and promote it on Slideshare.net. Link to this presentation from your website and promote it.
Brian Reiff
I would say that once you have a company page on each social networking website and to allocate a minimum of 5% of either your day or someone within your company’s day to draw awareness to your brand and continually use every major social networking website as frequently as possible and permanently place social media into your company’s overall marketing strategy. This 5% is literally less than 30 minutes on an eight hour work day and can really make a huge difference in a company’s online presence.
Dear Visitors You can also give tips here. Don't hesitate to give them in comments.
Thanks
